Roughies Tips - 3 roughies to back at Flemington on Saturday November 10

  • 3 roughies to back on Stakes Day
Spright.

The final day of the Flemington Carnival is upon us and the headline is the $2 million Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m).

It’s a nine-race program and we’ve found three value chances to back, each-way.

Race 2 - 12:50pm Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Plate (2000m)
It could be a case of backing the wrong Weir runner here, if the stablemate of Lucky For All, PLEASURING gets up. She has solid form around Sopressa and Sheezdashing in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) last preparation. She was dissapointing last start on face value but does get the blinkers on and the money has come already ($26 into $11). The same thing happened on Thursday with a Weir runner. The blinkers went on Egyptian Gold with D.Lane aboard. That horse was backed from $11 into $5.50. I’m expecting a similar story with Pleasuring and I wouldn’t be surprised if she starts closer to $7.00.

Race 5 - 2:50pm Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m)
A really interesting runner in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the grey MEGABLAST. The seven-year-old put in a flashing light run first-up in the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield behind Night’s Watch. He put in a poor performance second-up but bounced back with a terrific run in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m). The firm track didn’t suit him at all but he still ran terrifically well against the pattern of the day, flashing home for seventh despite being held-up for runs in the straight. All 10 of his wins have come on rain affected ground and although we may not get a soft track come Saturday, it won’t be firm. He meets the likes of Libran and Miss Admiration better at the weights and we’re getting almost double the price. He’ll go back from a wide gate and will be charging late.

Race 7 - 4:10pm VRC Sprint Classic (1200m)
Garry Frazer has his five-year-old mare SPRIGHT is in career best form. She charged to the line with Kementari last start in the Manikato Stakes (1200m). The start prior she wasn’t far off Viddora and Brave Smash in the Moir Stakes (1000m). Her one and only run down the Flemington straight was in the last race on Oaks Day in 2016. She came from the rear of the field and charged through the pack for an impressive victory. She draws perfectly in barrier 14 with D.Oliver on and is a terrific roughie. If the inside part of the track chops out, and the outside fence proves to be the fastlane, which we saw with Thermal Current and the likes of Multaja flashing home on Oaks Day, I expect her to start $18.
