Sale Tips July 11 - Two best bets from Sale

Sale Racing Preview
Sale

Racing is at Sale in Victoria on Thursday and we have an eight-race program on a Good 4 track with the rail in the true, so every horse should get their chance to win. It looks a good betting program and I have found two horse I’m keen to have something on.

Race 1 - 1:00pm Laurels Function Centre 2YO Maiden Plate (1200m)
I thought the Shea Eden-trained COMMANDO MISS was a more than fair price at around the $4.00 quote in this maiden. The two-year-old daughter of Zebedee was sent out a hot $2.10 favourite on a Heavy 10 at Geelong last start and although she was a beaten favourite, she did run second behind Moonlight Maid, who has shown herself to be an extremely talented prospect who could possibly be on an Oaks path in the Spring. The race rated very well on the day and her figure of three-lengths below benchmark is actually much better than it reads on paper. The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained debutante Niewand has been very well supported and his trial victory St Arnaud was stylish. In saying that, I couldn’t have her as short as the market on that public gallop, although she may have shown something extra at home for the stable. I’m happy enough to start the day with a bet on Commando Miss at what I believe is a generous price.

Race 6 - 3:30pm Ladbrokes Class 1 Handicap (1500m)
I launched at the Patrick Payne-trained CAFE TORTONI last start and after he was heavily supported from $2.00 into $1.60, I thought we were golden as he crossed the line ahead of Kepi Blanc, only to lose the race on protest. Although it was a painful way to do my money, I’m taking plenty of positives from the run as he ran his peak career figure of 2.8 lengths above benchmark which is clearly the best run of his career. He has been heavily supported in his last two starts, as he was $3.80 at 9am race morning and was backed all the way into $2.20 two starts ago here at Sale. The money was spot on, as once he got clear, he showed a terrific turn of foot to bolt away to win by 3.5 lengths untouched. I love barrier 12 for this horse today, he had barrier one at Warrnambool last start and never really looked comfortable on the inside of horses, obviously laying out in the straight and causing that protest. From barrier 12, M.Dee can take him back, peel to the outside and come home over the top of his rivals.
