Alligator Blood will go close in the Caulfield Guineas (PA Images)

Racing is at Caulfield on Saturday October 12 for Caulfield Guineas (1600m) day, while in Sydney, the action is at Randwick.

We have combined our best best from the two venues into a four-leg multi that pays $288 for a $10 investment at sportsbet.

Caulfield Race 6 - 3:10PM Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600 METRES)
One of the forgotten horses in the Thousand Guineas market is the Anthony Freedman-trained SOUTHBANK (PLACE), who had a tough run in the Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), which is the race to look at when assessing the contenders here. The daughter of Fastnet rock sat three and four deep for much of the trip but managed to run on well to finish runner-up, beaten just over a length. It was an impressive display from Southbank, who showed excellent improvement after finishing runner-up at her previous start, which was at Geelong in a Class 1. She should settle handy to the speed and it should be noted that roughies have a handy record in this race in recent years. She looms as a top three prospect.

Caulfield Race 8 - 4:30PM Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600 METRES)
My money is on ALLIGATOR BLOOD (PLACE) to produce a repeat performance of his Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) win. He has drawn slightly better than the favourite in Dalasun and has shown in previous runs that he is versatile enough to sit outside the leader or take a sit, depending on how the race pans out. In the Caulfield Guineas Prelude it was Alligator Blood that made his own luck, settling just outside the leader before taking over in the last 200m of the race, pinching a race winning break. I suspect the winner will come out of that pair, while Kubrick is also a threat as Sydney horses have done well in this race over the years. But Alligator Blood makes his own luck and there doesn't appear to be huge amounts of speed in the Guineas, which will play into his hands. The Queenslander is unbeaten in his five starts and made a big impression at Caulfield recently. He is the one to stick with.

Caulfield Race 10 - 5:45PM Alfa Romeo Schillaci Stakes (1100 METRES)

This shapes as a cracker with a spot in the Everest (1200m) on the line. The winner of this will gain the Melbourne Racing Club's slot in the worlds richest race and it is THE BOSTONIAN (PLACE) that can go very close. The Kiwi galloper showed his class in the Brisbane carnival earlier this year, landing a Group 1 double by taking out the Doomben 10000 (1200m) ahead of Osborne Bulls, before going on the claim the Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) ahead of Princess Posh and Trekking. He resumed in the Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley recently but had no chance from the wide draw, settling wide before fanning out six deep as the speedsters made their runs. He chased hard before finishing 9th, beaten just two lengths by Nature Strip. The extra 100m is in his favour, but more importantly he has drawn to get the run of the race from barrier 3.

Randwick Race 7 - 4:50PM MOËT & CHANDON SPRING CHAMPION STAKES (2000 METRES)
Group 1 action continues at Randwick on Saturday October 12 with the running of the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) for the three-year-olds. The key lead up to the Spring Champion was the Gloaming Stakes (1800m), which was taken out in dominant fashion by SHADOW HERO (WIN) and it is hard to see his rivals turning things around and making up the required three lengths. The son of Pierro has had two starts this preparation and produced an eye-catching 4th in the Dulcify Quality (1500m) on 14 September at Rosehill before turning the the tables on his rivals in the Gloaming. He should take further improvement out of that run and gives the impression that he is most suited by the step up to the 2000m. Stick with him.
