Scone Tips - May 11

Race 1 - 12:15PM INGLIS 3YO GUINEAS (1400 METRES)
The opening race of the day at Scone shapes as a cracker with the three-year-olds set to do battle in the $300,000 Inglis 3YO Guineas. After taking out the Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) on April 27, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained MILITARY ZONE can go on with the job. The son of Epaulette has shown plenty of talent in his career thus far and claimed the Gosford Guineas (1200m) at his last campaign before resuming with an unlucky 6th at the same venue recently. He really hit his straps late in the race at Hawkesbury by nailing Trope on the line and there is no reason to suggest why he can't improve further off that run. He has drawn a fraction awkwardly but shouldn't settle too far away and actually drops slightly in weight from his previous run. He should be hard to beat.

Race 6 - 3:25PM TAB LUSKIN STAR STAKES (1300 METRES)
Race 6 is the Luskin Star Stakes and TREKKING is the one they have to beat. The Godolphin galloper is compiling an excellent record and comes off a strong win at Randwick, where he accounted for Brave Song in the Hall Mark Stakes (1200m). He meets that horse slightly worse off at the weights but goes well third up and the only real blip on his recent records have occurred on wet tracks or when he was luckless at Caulfield in the spring behind Brave Song. He has drawn to get a beautiful run in transit and with improving conditions at Scone he can register another win.

Race 4 - 3:06pm PRYDE’S EASIFEED MAIDEN PLATE (1300m)
FORT JACKSON was a beaten favourite last start but gets his chance to atone. The lightly-raced five-year-old gelding is yet to break his maiden and this looks his chance to do so. He was backed from $2.50 into $2.10 last start, did plenty of work in the run and just found one better. He was first-up for 19-weeks and will be better for the run, second-up, upto 1300m suits. He should go close.
Result: Unplaced

Race 8 - 5:46pm ISIS MOTEL SCONE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (SCALED -0.5KG) (1300m)
I’m happy to be with ANDY’S A STAR in the final race on the program. He ran a slashing second in this grade at Narromine over 1300m. It was an odd decision to drop him back to 1100m second-up and although he wasn’t suited, still almost won. He ripped home the final furlong, flying to just miss Terra Reign on the line. Third-up, back out to 1300m suits. The map from barrier one with 60kg is a concern but with even luck, he looks a good chance.
