Seymour and Horsham Tips October 20 - Admirals Joker and Wetakemanhattan to claim country cups

  • It is Seymour Cup day and Horsham Cup day on Sunday October 20.
  • Here are our best bets for the respective venues.

The spring carnival spotlight heads to Seymour and Horsham on Sunday October 20.

Here are our best bets for the respective venues

Race 5 - 3:25PM Carlton Draught BM64 Handicap (2000 METRES)
Race 5 at Seymour is a BenchMark 64 and is over the 2000m. The Michael Moroney-trained NERVE NOT VERVE gives the impression that the step up to the distance will suit and has had two runs since crossing over from New Zealand. She was never in the hunt when resuming in a nice race at Bendigo before dropping to this grade on September 30, finishing a close up 5th at Geelong. The four-year-old mare came 7th in the New Zealand Oaks (2400m) in the autumn before winning one and finishing runner-up in another. Both of those came over the 2100m distance. She has drawn to get a gun run from barrier 4 and Damien Oliver rides.

Race 7 - 4:30PM Bet365 Seymour Cup (1600 METRES)
The feature of the day is the Seymour Cup and ADMIRAL'S JOKER comes in with the right form. The lightly raced seven-year-old has won five of his 12 career starts and has enjoyed a recent hat-trick of wins. At his latest outing he held out Rox The Castle and Waging War at Caulfield. Those two went on to perform very well at Caulfield on Caulfield Guineas day with Rox The Castle taking out the Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m), while Waging War was a close up 6th in the Toorak (1600m). With the scratching of Desert Lord, he looks to be the one.

Race 6 - 4:10PM Miller’s Horsham Cup (1800 METRES)
In the Horsham Cup, a number of handy performers battle it out over the 1800m and WETAKEMANHATTAN will be out to make it two wins from as many runs this preparation. The Matt Cumani-trained galloper stepped out at a midweek meeting at Flemington back on September 25 at BenchMark 78 level and led all the way to defeat Ripplebrook and Bianco Nuovo over the 1630m. He heads to Horsham and will look to dictate again. He jumps from the inside gate and has the early speed to kick up, while there doesn't look to be much pressure around him once settling. The five-year-old shouldnt have too many concerns with the step up to the 1800m as he was a strong winner at Flemington over the 2000m in the autumn, taking out a $150,000 event back on Australian Cup day and gets in well at the weights with Jordan Childs to ride.
