Sunshine Coast Tips July 17 - Two great chances for the Coast today

Steve Bennett in Free Tips 17 Jul 2019
  • Two hot chances look the goods today
  • Suggested Stake: 2 Units to Win on both selections
Sunshine Coast racing at Corbould Park Wednesday

A Soft 5 makes a nice change from recent tracks we’ve had to deal with at Corbould Park recently and I have a couple who will relish the conditions today.

Race 2 - 1:08PM WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS OPEN Handicap (1000 METRES)
A small field over the 1000m sprint here will suit MISERY to a tee, based upon his resume. Trained by Stuart Kendrick, the six-year-old is four starts into this campaign and has been thereabouts at every start. Third-up he took on the big guns in the Listed Lightning Hcp (1050m) and was far from disgraced when finishing fourth, beaten only two lengths behind Plague Stone. That was on a Good 3 and then last start he lined up here, on a Heavy 10 and hit the line well, beating all but Tarzan home in Open company over 1000m. He’s drawn the outside gate here but in a field of seven, it makes little difference. He should now be at his peak after those four runs and his track and trip stats are all but faultless, boasting 10 starts for four wins and five minor placings. He is a regular money-spinner here over the sprint and should give this a real shake.

Race 4 - 2:18PM BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BenchMark 70 Handicap (1600 METRES)
Similar to our first tip of the day, SPEAKING BAD looks just as well placed here and looks right in mix after two starts this time round. Locally-trained by Gary Duncan, the mare enjoyed an impressive campaign when last in work where she raced six times for two wins and two minor placings, finishing fourth at her remaining two starts. Last start, she had to deal with a heavy 10 here 10 days ago where she beat all but Diplomatic Miss home in a Class 3 over 1400m. Today, she drops 3kgs from that run and has Taylor Marshall sticking with her, having partnered her to her last two victories. This five-year-old mare has stats just as impressive as Misery (Race 2) and with an ounce of luck in running, she will be finishing strongly at the end.
