Another night meeting for the coast and a couple have caught my eye with both of them from leading stables.

Race 1 - 6:15PM ACKERMAN RACING Maiden Plate (1400 METRES)
After this morning’s scratchings, KNIGHT MARINER has opened up very short but if he brings his trial form with him tonight, he should take this out. The Tony Gollan-trained colt comes from good blood, being by Tavistock out of an O’Reilly mare, and he certainly showed it prior to making his debut in two Doomben trials. He then made his debut over 1350m at the Doomben track and in the run home, took a while to get going, but hit the line well over the final 100 metres to finish third in a three-way go over the line. He was spelled after finishing unplaced next up at Eagle Farm over 1500m. Resuming here off a 15-week break, he has trialled nicely, finishing second last month than winning his most recent trial which he ran last week. Gollan himself rates this horse the best provincial chance from his stables this weekend. He may be short in the market, but he does appear to be ready to shake that maiden status off his shoulders here.

Race 2 - 6:45PM CALOUNDRA PRODUCE & LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1400 METRES)
Robert Heathcote has CUNARD lined up here and he appears ready to go on with his current good form. Resuming from a 20-week spell, he took just two starts before showing his best at Ipswich. Third-up, in a 1350m maiden, he showed tremendous fight to stave-off challenges as he led all the way to win in a tight finish. Last start, he attempted to repeat the effort but was denied right on the post by Bonanova's Dream in a Class 1 over the same trip. There was only a neck in that last start and he can only improve on the run. There is some early speed in this race and I am banking on Adin Thompson to take a sit if the battle up front becomes too fierce. Should that happen, I believe the five-year-old can finish on top and take this out.
