Yeppoon racing Tuesday

20 kilometres east of Rockhampton, we travel to the coastal town of Yeppoon for a rare weekday meeting and Tommy Button will be out to make amends with his three-year-old filly today.
Race 8 - 4:47PM G.J. GARDNER HOMES YEPPOON QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1200 METRES)
Supporters of the Tom Button-trained VICTORY TOAST were left dumbfounded and disappointed at Townsville two weeks ago where the filly failed to finish in a QTIS three-year-old handicap over 1400m, more on that soon. She resumed from a 23-week break, after transferring from the Ben Currie stables at Toowoomba, in a 1050m three-year-old event at Mackay. She sat just off the pace and hit the line well, finishing second behind odds-on favourite Last Chance. Then second-up, she made her Townsville debut and finished the 1200m event a bridesmaid again. Crossing to lead after 200 metres, the filly led into the straight and settled down to a two-horse war with Malos but couldn’t hold off the challenge, beaten a head that day. Then last start, she was third-up and returned to the Cluden Park track at Townsville. Drawing the fence, there were high expectations of a big improvement. However in stark contrast, the gates opened and she began to buck-jump badly, losing a ton of ground in the process. Having no chance (whatsoever) of figuring in the finish, jockey Brad Pengelly decided to pull the filly up. The general consensus was she looked over-keen to begin and a little crowded from those drawn outside her as they pushed to get closer to the fence. Drawing wide (in gate 10) will be an advantage for her as she likes galloping room. Leading jockey Justin Stanley is aboard for the first time and will give her every chance to cross somewhere near the front. Forgetting her last ‘experience’, she lines up here looking the testing material. Opening a $3.70 chance last night, some Agencies have her into as little as $2.60. I can see her shortening even further up til post time.

Odds correct as at 8:00AM (AEST) on 23/07/2019
