Canterbury Stakes Nominations

Canterbury Stakes Nominations Savatiano (PA Images)

The Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) nominations will be released on February 28.

This page will be updated following the release.

Below are the nominations from 2021.

Trainer James Cummings has nominated Bivouac, Kementari and Savatiano for the Canterbury Stakes. Bivouac was disappointing as a well-backed favourite first up when fifth in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) won by Nature Strip. The step up in distance should be more favourable for the four-year-old entire.

Savatiano won the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) on January 30 by two lengths. The six-year-old mare has had 37 career starts for 12 wins.

Chris Waller has nominated Imaging, Madam Rouge, Mister Sea Wolf and Subpoenaed for the event.

Imaging was runner up in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at his return to racing and drops back 100m if he runs in the Canterbury Stakes.

The Bjorn Baker-trained seven-year-old gelding Samadoubt captured the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) in 2019 and hasn’t raced since October of that year. He has won two trials in preparation for his return to the track.

See below for the full list of nominations for the $500,000 feature race.
