Cox Plate (2040m) winner Sir Dragonet is the $2.90 favourite for the CF Orr Stakes. Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, the five-year-old entire is yet to win under 2040m in his career. All 11 career starts to date for Sir Dragonet have come at 2000m or longer.
Sir Dragonet won a 1200m trial at Geelong on January 28 in preparation for his first-up run.
The Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes-trained three-year-old gelding Crosshaven is the $4 second elect. He has won three of his past four starts and was fourth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m). Two of those three wins recently came at Group 3 level.
Chris Waller’s six-year-old gelding Imagining is a $6.50 chance. He was third in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and also third in the $1 million Yes Yes Yes Stakes (1300m).
