Sylvia’s Mother and Sweet Deal are the early favourites for Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens.
The Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained four-year-old mare Sylvia’s Mother is the $4.20 favourite as she chases a hat-trick of wins.
Resuming in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m), Sylvia’s Mother was a narrow winner in the Caulfield event before heading to Flemington to win the Group 3 Tressady Stakes (1400m).
On the second line of betting is the John Thompson-trained five-year-old mare Sweet Deal at $4.40. She has also raced twice this campaign winning the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) by more than two lengths before running second in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) won by Dawn Dawn.
Pohutukawa was narrowly beaten in the Guy Walter Stakes also with an official margin of 0.2 lengths. Trained by James Cummings, Pohutukawa will look to turn the tables on rivals after her third behind Sweet Deal to kick off her preparation. She is a $5.50 chance for the Coolmore Classic.
All other runners are double figures headed by Spanish Whisper at $11 and Dawn Dawn at $14.
