Flight Stakes Tips & Preview

A small but classy field of seven fillies aim for Group 1 Glory and battle for $500,000 in prizemoney at Randwick on Saturday.

The first four home as well as 7th in the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) line up for a rematch, while Joviality looks to make it four in row following a BM72 win over 1300m at Warwick Farm and Alighted comes off a 6th placing in a maiden.

Alighted simply looks outclassed her and her figures are the lowest by a long way, and she’d need to improve by more than 10 lengths to trouble these.

Joviality rates well and looks suited by the step up in trip, but James McDonald has ridden her at her last two starts for two wins, and he sticks with stablemate Hungry Heart on Saturday.

How do the Tea Rose Stakes runners stack up?

Dame Giselle won the race impressively running 2.3 lengths quicker than standard BM which rated 2.3 lengths below the Class BM.

However, they went 6.0 lengths slower than BM to the 600m and that gave on pace runners the best chance while also lowering the overall rating of the race.

Dame Giselle sat in the perfect spot one out and one back and sprinted best to score while Hungry Heart settled one pair further back and couldn’t get clear at the top of the straight.

With the pace being slow, Hungry Heart was in the wrong spot but she took good ground off Dame Giselle when she got out at the 200m mark.

Hungry Heart is by Frankel and is sure to improve over more ground, and with the right run from barrier 4, she’s the one to beat.
