Futurity Stakes Nominations
Nominations for Saturday’s Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield were announced on Monday with 13 entries received.
The Danny O’Brien-trained four-year-old entire Russian Camelot is amongst entries for the $500,000 feature event. The Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) winner would go on to run third in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) won by Sir Dragonet. He then finished eight in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m).
Arcadia Queen had several battles with Russian Camelot during the spring and the Grant and Alana Williams-trained five-year-old mare turned the tables in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m). She was fifth in the Cox Plate prior to winning the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m).
The Futurity Stakes looks stacked with the likes of David Jolly’s five-year-old gelding Behemoth nominated. He put together back-to-back Group 1 wins in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).
Streets Of Avalon captured the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) with a fighting win over Imaging and Crosshaven. All three placegetters from the CF Orr Stakes have been entered for the Futurity.
Golden Rose (1400m) and Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner Ole Kirk adds much intrigue to the Futurity Stakes if Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes accept with the three-year-old colt.
