Kennedy Cantala Preview
To be honest, this is not a race I want to play in as it looks extremely open and it would not surprise to see any one of 10 horses win.
A total of 16 will line up with Fifty Stars and Mr Quickie carrying equal top weight of 58kg while King’s Legacy is at the bottom of the weights on 51kg.
Seven runners come through the Toorak Handicap (1600m) which rated highest with Mr Quickie winning and going 15.4 lengths quicker than standard BM which was just off his personal best of -15.9.
Moonga Stakes winner Wild Planet rated sixth strongest going 11.6 lengths quicker than BM, and it’s worth noting he produced the strongest final 600m last start which rated 9.8 lengths quicker than standard.
Age Of Chivalry beat all bar Homesman in the Crystal Mile (1600m) at The Valley last Saturday, and it’s also worth noting he has the highest rated career performance having gone 16.6 lengths quicker than standard when runner-up in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last year.
He now drops 6kg on that run and gets back to Flemington where he has place all three runs.
I tipped Yulong Prince in the Epsom Handicap at $26 and he was an unlucky 4th after getting held up in the straight.
He generally peaks second-up which is why I was keen on him in the Epsom, but he’s capable of running a big race here.
Nonconformist and The Velvet King have plenty of upside but rated poorly last start, while Harbour Views could surprise dropping back to the mile.
Who will win the Kennedy Cantala?
Mr Quickie does look the obvious pick and I can’t see any of the horses he beat last start turning the tables here.
However, Age Of Chivalry ticks a few boxes with the highest PB BM performance as well as dropping 6kg from last start’s high rating effort.
He goes well at Flemington, and despite drawing terribly in gate 19, he should be able to come across and get in behind the leaders.
With any luck getting cover from the wide gate, he looks way over the odds at $23 and is a great Each-Way hope as my top Kennedy Cantala tip.
