Randwick Guineas horses

The Randwick Guineas is a Group 1 race over the 1600m at Randwick. We assess each runner’s winning chance in the Saturday feature.

Here is our runner-by-runner look at the Randwick Guineas horses.

2021 Randwick Guineas Horses

1. AEGON $2.30
The excitement machine from New Zealand is unbeaten in five starts and took out the Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at his most recent start. That race is usually the form reference for the Guineas. Interestingly, they went just 4.7 lengths faster than standard but that had a bit to do with the slow tempo up front and he was good enough to defy that, coming from a midfield spot to clock up some of the best sectionals of the day. The one to beat on that effort.

2. KINGS LEGACY $20
Was wide and without cover in the Hobartville Stakes when 6th and it capable of better with the right run. He took out the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) as a two-year-old at his only run at the track and trip. Can land in the top three.

3. NORTH PACIFIC $8
Has lacked a bit of dash at a crucial stage in his two runs this time in and finished runner-up to Aegon in the Hobartville, beaten two lengths. Not sure he can turn the tables here.

4. PRIME STAR $15
The Richard and Michael Freedman-trained galloper will push forward from the wide gate and is honest. If they go slow up front he can hang on for a first four finish.

5. PELTZER $7.50
Unbeaten in five starts at Randwick and took out the Bondi Stakes (1600m) at the track and trip last year when leading all the way. Went eight lengths faster than standard that day and will give them something to chase. A definite top three contender.

6. LION’S ROAR $18
The John O’Shea-trained galloper was 5th in the Hobartville and will appreciate the step up to the 1600m but the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) might be his go later on.

7. MO’UNGA $6.50
Comes out of the CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) and that race rated through the roof as he went 12.8 lengths faster than standard. At his second run of his last campaign he took out the Dulcify Quality (1500m) and is one of the dangers to Aegon.

8. THE ELANORA $26
Had a couple of issues when 7th in the Hobartville and is another that might be better over the 2000m later on.

9. BUCHAREST $61
One of three for Chris Waller, it is hard to make a case for the son of Deep Impact.

10. MARSANNAY $34
Rises steeply in grade after claiming a BenchMark 72 at Kensington and went just 0.3 lengths faster than standard in that race. No.

11. HERE TO SHOCK $101
A win would shock and is long shot that hasn’t been able to trouble them in the Melbourne three-year-old races.

12. WHEELHOUSE $51
Another that rises in class and form says no.

13. HARMONY ROSE $15
Has won three of four and rises in grade but went nearly five lengths faster than standard, which compares well to what Aegon produced in the Hobartville. The sole filly in the field, she is worth throwing into multiples.
