Spring Champion Stakes Final Field & Barrier Draw
A final field of 15 has been declared for Saturday’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick after the barrier draw was completed on Wednesday morning.
The Richard and Michael Freedman-trained three-year-old gelding Love Trap has drawn a wide gate in 14 with jockey Nash Rawiller in the saddle. Unbeaten in four starts, Love Tap has won three times as an odds-on favourite, including a dominant 4.35-length win as a $1.07 chance at Goulburn over 1500m. He then came away with a 1.8-length win in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 26.
David Payne’s three-year-old filly Montefilia captured the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 3. She will be on the quick back up to tackle the Spring Champion Stakes where she has drawn barrier one with Jason Collett to ride.
The James Cummings-trained three-year-old colt Choir draws alongside Montefilia in barrier two with jockey Rachel King to ride.
