Tancred Stakes Tips – Ranvet form to stand up
Looking for Tancred Stakes Tips on Saturday, March 28? Our form analyst has previewed the Rosehill Gardens staying feature and given his best bet for the race.
TANCRED STAKES PREVIEW:
There are four different form lines to assess as we head into Saturday’s Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Four runners come through the Sky High Stakes (2000m) with Mustajeer (2nd), Carif (3rd), Angel Of Truth (5th) and Danceteria (6th) finishing behind Master Of Wine on a Heavy 10.
This is a tricky race to assess as any of these could improve significantly on something better than a Heavy 10, and each has plenty of upside.
Despite finishing last of that quartet, I’d be with Danceteria who gets blinkers for the first time after closing off nicely late.
Mirage Dancer (6th) and Southern France (7th) come through the Australian Cup (2000m), and while Mirage Dancer has strong form over 2400m having placed in the Caulfield Cup, his form doesn’t read well on rain-affected tracks.
Likewise, Southern France appears better on firmer ground, and I think he may be in need of the run.
Mugatoo won three in a row before finishing runner-up to William Haggas’ Young Rascal in the Manion Cup (2400m), but he carried 5kg less than Young Rascal and couldn’t get the job done.
Young Rascal’s stablemate Addeybb brings much stronger form, and it’s hard to side with Mugatoo when he goes up 5kg here and faces two that finished behind Addeybb.
Verry Elleegant and Avilius come through the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) having finished 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Addeybb, and this looks the right form to follow.
I questioned how forward Addeybb would be seeing his main target is the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and I thought Avilius looked perfectly placed as he had the fitness advantage.
Verry Elleegant beat Avilius home by 5.3 lengths and ran quicker sectionals over the final 600m, 400m and 200m, and it’s hard to see that order reversing on Saturday.
Verry Elleegant should now be at peak fitness considering her peak runs have come fourth and fifth-up previously.
She’s two from two on Heavy tracks, and Rosehill is likely to be in the Heavy range with rain predicted on each day leading up to Saturday.
The quick back-up suits and she’ll take a power of beating.
