The Everest Barrier Draw
The all-important barrier draw for Saturday’s $15 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick has been conducted.
The unique ceremony took place on the 84th floor of Sydney Tower with connections of each horse harnessed above the city skyline as they revealed each runner’s barrier by pushing a giant red button.
Adelaide-based trainer Gordon Richards was first to approach the red button and drew barrier 7 for his runner, Gytrash, after a brief computer malfunction delayed proceeding.
Gytrash was dominant defeating Nature Strip in the Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick and has won nine from 20 starts.
Classique Legend remains favourite after drawing barrier 6 while Nature Strip has firmed after also drawing well in gate 5.
Last start Premier Stakes (1200m) winner Libertini has drawn the outside gate (12), while Tofane and Bivouac have also drawn wide in gates 11 and 10 respectively.
