The final field has been announced for Saturday’s $15 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

A final field of 12 sprinters will contest the 2020 The Everest with first place taking home $6.2 million in prizemoney.

The Les Bridge-trained five-year-old gelding Classique Legend will be one of the leading Everest contenders on the back of winning the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Royal Randwick on September 19. He was then a huge run in defeat behind Libertini in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at the same venue.

Gordon Richards trains South Australian five-year-old gelding Gytrash who was victorious in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick defeating Nature Strip.

The Chris Waller-trained Nature Strip captured the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick in April. Since then, he has run second in the Concorde Stakes as a $1.45 favourite and fourth in the Premiere as $2.20 favourite.

Libertini is prepared by Anthony Cummings and the four-year-old mare’s victory in the Premiere Stakes stamped her claims as a serious Everest contender.

David Jolly has done a tremendous job with five-year-old gelding Behemoth. Back to back Group 1 wins in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) has Behemoth ready to scale The Everest.

A last minute switch for slot holder Aquis saw them replace the injured Farnan with Dollar For Dollar who has finished runner-up in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes for the past two years.

The other runners in the field are Bivouac, Tofane, Farnan, Eduardo, Haut Brion Her, Santa Ana Lane and Trekking.
