VINERY STUD STAKES TIPS & PREVIEW
Looking for Vinery Stud Stakes tips and best bets? We dissect times and form to find the winner of the 2021 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill.
The fillies step up to the 2000m for a shot at Group 1 glory in what is the main lead up race as we head to the Australian Oaks (2400m).
This year’s field sees a mix of the best staying fillies from New South Wales and Victoria, while the Kiwi, Force Of Will, represents a bit of X-factor.
Favourite in the race is the Mark Newnham-trained Harmony Rose, who is a $2.70 favourite with ladbrokes. The daughter of Glass Harmonium heads into this third up and settled handy to the lead in the recent Randwick Guineas (1600m) against the boys, before sticking on for 3rd behind Lion’s Roar and Mo’unga.
The runner-up out of that race, Mo’unga, has since picked up the Rosehill Guineas (2000m), franking that form. Harmony Rose went nearly eight lengths faster than standard, setting a personal best, and might have more scope for improvement. At her third run last time she improved 10 lengths on figures when runner-up over the 1600m at Warwick Farm.
Hungry Heart ($6) and Impecunious ($11) are others that come out of local races. The Chris Waller-trained Hungry Heart ended a run of outs by claiming the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m), while Impecunious was a luckless 3rd. Hungry Heart went nine lengths faster than standard that day.
That figure is dwarfed somewhat by what Starelle and Personal produced at Flemington a month ago. The two Victorians clashed in the Kewney Stakes (1600m) as Starelle cashed in on a fast early tempo to get up late in the piece in a three-way go with Personal running 3rd. Those two were split by Chica Fuerte.
Starelle went a whopping 16.7 lengths faster that standard and those numbers are hard to ignore, given that the form stacks up. Personal claimed the Kennedy Oaks (2500m) last spring, while the runner-up out of the Kewney, Chica Fuerte, has since gone on to toy with her rivals at Group 3 level at Moonee Valley.
Miravelle and Elizabeel are not without a chance. That pair provided the exacta in the Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) and that race has been a good guide for this in the past. The figures out of that are moderate but Miravelle was second up and wasn’t far behind Personal when fourth up in the Wakeful Stakes (2000m) last year.
The New Zealander, Force Of Will has won four of five and steps up in grade. The market might be the best guide for her. Love Sensation has form around Chica Fuerte, overcoming a wide run to land within a length of that horse in the Alexandra Stakes (1600m, while Princess Rhaenys has scope but steps up from maiden company.
Vinery Stud Stakes Tips & Verdict
I am keen on Starelle at the price. There are some question marks as to whether or not she can reproduce her last start form in Sydney, while the More Than Ready breed probably don’t want too much further than 2000m. But she did overcome trouble in the Kewney, while she has always shown the ability, even early on in her career. A drying track is to her advantage and she will be ridden by Craig Williams, who partnered her to her recent win.
