Newmarket Handicap Barrier Draw Bivouac (PA Images)

Newmarket Handicap winner Bivouac is $2.40 favourite for Friday night’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley. Latest William Reid Stakes odds previewed.

The James Cummings-trained three-year-old colt Bivouac showed his class in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) with a 2.5-length victory down the Flemington straight. Loving Gaby finished second ahead of Gytrash.

Bivouac’s only look at The Valley circuit saw him finish sixth in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) won by Loving Gaby. Bivouac had been a $1.80 favourite from barrier one which didn’t suit. Once again, Bivouac has drawn the inside gate.

Loving Gaby is a $5.00 chance in the race. Prepared by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, the three-year-old filly is a perfect two from two at The Valley. In addition to her Manikato victory, she captured the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes (1200m). Loving Gaby will carry 54kg in the race as she jumps from barrier five with Craig Williams riding.

Exceedance is currently at $7.00. Trained by Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, the three-year-old colt could only manage sixth in the Newmarket Handicap. He defeated Bivouac in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) back in November. He has gate eight with Tommy Berry in the saddle.

Scales Of Justice is the other horse in single figures at $9.50. He won the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) over course and distance first up prior to his sixth in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m).

Gytrash is $11 ahead of Pippie at $12.
