Race Previews

Race 1 – SKY RACING REPLAYS MS PACE (2536m) – 8:17pm AEDT

The Kim Prentice trained and driven SOHO THUNDERSTRUCK will lead in the opening race and there isn’t a great deal of pressure with no genuine breeze horse engaged. He was second behind My Carbon Copy last start when racing outside him in 1:54.6. His last win came five starts ago when breezing outside of The Last Drop in 1:57.6 for the 2130m. Soho Thunderstruck is 6:0-1-1 over the distance but this looks a perfect chance to break that. Back In Twenty is the main danger in the race.

Race 6 – SKY RACING WA DERBY 3YO MS PACE (2536m) – 10:55pm AEDT

The Group 1 WA Derby barrier draw was kind to the Greg and Skye Bond stable with Howard Hughes and Patronus Star drawing barriers one and 10 respectively. I don’t know a lot about PATRONUS STAR considering he has had one start in Australia for an easy win in 1:53.2 at Bunbury over the mile. The time itself is promising after running home in 27.7 and 27.6 and he was third behind now stablemate Howard Hughes back in New Zealand. Franco Ecuador could apply some pressure to Howard Hughes at some point. My other thinking is that Howard Hughes will have to put the foot down at some point with the speedy Major Martini closing in on him; this could allow Patronus Star some clear running.

Race 9 – SKY SPORTS RADIO MS PACE (2130m) – 12:30am AEDT

A very competitive race is the penultimate on the card and I like the way DISCO UNDER FIRE has been racing since joining trainer Giles Inwood. He will be driven by Chris Voak with the horse running third, third and second at his past three starts; all of them have been in standing start races chasing home Kingslayer or Papinik who would be favourites in this race. Disco Under Fire will likely race outside of the leader and should give a big sight. Dennis and One For Dave Andme are the main dangers in the race.
