The Harrovian etched his name into the history books on Saturday as he claimed his second trophy in two weeks by taking out the Cairns Cup.
The Steve Massingham-trained gelding was coming off a sensational win in the Townsville Cup just two weeks ago and he certainly franked that form at Cannon Park, winning the coveted event by almost three lengths.
The Fastnet Rock gelding became the second horse in three years to win the Townsville Cup/Cairns Cup double, joining Chivadahlii who completed the double in 2017.
Sensationally, race favourite Unbiased was scratched at the barrier after being found lame in one leg.
This caused a dramatic change in the market, which saw The Harrovian shorten to start a hot $2.40 favourite.

For veteran jockey Robert Thompson, it was the perfect ride and he was elated with the horse’s effort in the run.
In an interview after the race, he told Sky Channel presenter Michael Charge how well the horse travelled.

“I think you could have won on him (Chargey)”

 “He travelled absolutely brilliant.

“I probably got there a little touch early but I couldn’t wait no longer and he pulled his way to the lead and he was very strong, he’s a lovely horse”.

It was a winning quinella for owner Tom Hedley as stablemate Follow Suit ($51) took the lead at the 1200m and fought on like a caged tiger to grab second prize.
The Janel Ryan-trained Astoria ($13) finished a neck further back in third place.
Massingham will now set The Harrovian for a tilt at the Cairns Amateurs Cup to be run at the Cannon Park track on September 14.
When asked if he will be aboard the horse Thompson said, “you’ll need a crowbar to get me off him”.
