Winterbottom Stakes barrier draw favours reigning champ

Reigning Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) winner Elite Street has drawn well in barrier 10 for Saturday’s feature sprint at Ascot Racecourse. Continue reading to see the Winterbottom Stakes field for 2021.
The Daniel Morton-trained five-year-old gelding Elite Street captured the Winterbottom Stakes 12 months ago defeating Celebrity Queen and Rock Magic. He was not favoured for the race as he was sent out as a $31 chance; odds on favourite Trekking finished in fourth place.
Elite Street enters Saturday’s Winterbottom Stakes with a three-race winning streak.
He was victorious in the Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m) first up from a spell before capturing the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) and Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m).
Brad Rawiller will continue his association with the gelding as they seek back-to-back Winterbottom Stakes wins.
Stablemate Wilchino is a five-year-old mare who has drawn barrier one and she will be looking to lead in the race.
Wilchino will be ridden by Chris Parnham and is the winner of eight from 11. She has won six straight races as she continues to race through the grades.
William Pike will need to weave some of his magic after the Grant and Alana Williams-trained four-year-old mare Graceful Girl drew barrier 18.
She was runner up behind Elite Street in the Colonel Reeves Stakes after racing from last into second place. Prior to that excellent run, Graceful Girl was eighth behind Wilchino over 1000m.
