STARSELLA ($3.30 with bet365) can chalk up the first win of her career when she steps out in the opener at Ballarat. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy filly has had three starts and nearly got the job done at Mildura when pipped by In Her Stride lat in the piece. She led them up that day before going down in the shadows. The daughter of Star Witness went 1.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is superior to what any of her rivals have been dishing up of late. Synthetic track is a slight unknown but she has the upside and has been a firmer in the early betting.

GRAND QUILL ($9 with Palmerbet) shapes as an each-way player in Race 5 at Ballarat. The six-year-old is a previous winner on the Synthetic and wasn’t far away in this company at Werribee on May 2 when 4th behind Fiorente Lass, beaten just one length. In that race he settled back before producing the fastest last 200m. The son of Longhorn comes into this fourth up and should be ready.

TRUE NOBILITY ($4.80 with Palmerbet) can go a couple of spots better than a last start effort that saw him run 3rd at Horsham over the 1100m on April 30. On that occasion, the three-year-old settled handy on a moderate tempo and stuck on well to finish just over a length from the winner, going 3.1 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which are the best last start figures of any runner. Wide draw is a concern but he has the early speed to come across, while he gets the blinkers for the first time.
