Here are our Armidale race tips:
Race 5 - 2:45PM DEBORTOLI WINES CG&E BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Tamworth galloper TRAVOLI (best odds currently $3.70 with Palmerbet) is second-up here and looks poised to make it back-to-back wins here. Last start, the More Than Ready gelding was resuming from a lengthy 22 weeks in the paddock when he made light work of a Class 2 Hcp as he made his track debut here. Leading all the way, he crossed the line 1.5 lengths ahead of them in the 1400m contest with Brook Stower onboard. Today, he drops sharply in grade as Stower sticks with him for this assignment. Placed when second-up previously and fitter for that first-up run, he should give them something to chase today.
Race 6 - 3:25PM TONY WILLIAMS MACHINERY F&M BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
The locally-trained DEEP MIRROR (best odds currently $4 with bet365) is third-up today and as the stats sheet shows, she loves racing on her home track. Last start, the Deep Field mare came off a win here in BM58 company when she placed third in the Jardel Cup (BM66) over 1200m at Tamworth. She was caught three-deep without cover from her wide gate that day and did well to finish as close as she did. She ran that trip out, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 2 lengths. Three starts here have ended in two wins and an unlucky second and already a two-winner on soft tracks, she looks right in the mix here today. Down in grade, she will take beating.
Race 7 - 4:05PM ARMIDALE ROOF TILERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
The Donna Grisedale-trained BOW (best odds currently $3.90 with Palmerbet) is yet to miss a podium finish from three career starts to date and second-up here looks the one they have to beat today. Last start, the Bel Esprit gelding came off an eight-week let-up and did best to break through for his maiden win at Grafton. He ran a new personal best that day, covering the trip, a shade under 1 length slower than benchmark, which is the best in this line-up. He also posted the fastest final 400m and 200m sectionals for the 946m event. Fitter for that Maiden win, he makes his track debut today and with husband Jon in the saddle again, he should be there at the finish again.
