Armidale Tips Monday January 24

Looking for Armidale race tips? Our NSW form expert provides his best bets for key horse race meetings at Armidale Racecourse.

Here are our Armidale race tips:

Tamworth galloper I’M ON BREAK (best odds $4.60 with Sportsbet) has two runner-up prizes from two starts here and looks ideally placed to make it third time lucky today. Last start, the Toronado gelding found the 1600m a little too far when he finished third on his home track in BM66 company. He took control on straightening but was run down in the closing stages by a couple of swoopers. He ran that trip, 7.3 lengths slower than benchmark, the second-best here. Back to the 1400m trip today where he is undefeated (two from two), he is ideally drawn in gate three and maps to get the gun-run just behind the pace. Rock-hard fit after four starts this time in, he will take beating here today.

The Kris Lees-trained DAWNBURST (best odds $2.80 with Sportsbet) makes her track debut today and with a pull in the weights, looks the one to beat here. Last start, the Real Impact filly continued her good form this time in when she beat all but one home in a BM58 over 1350m on the Beaumont track at Newcastle. She ran a new personal best that day, covering the trip, 4.6 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this field. From gate six, she maps to cross and box-seat behind them here. Arron Bullock has the reins for the first time and he boasts a 28% success rate with the stable, saluting 156 times to date. Yet to miss a podium finish in four starts this preparation, the consistent filly looks the testing material at the weights today.

Scone galloper PHOTOGENIC (best odds $3.60 with Sportsbet) also sees the Armidale track for the first time today and resuming from almost a year off the scene, looks a solid winning chance on fresh legs. Last start, the More Than Ready gelding ended a short (but successful) campaign when he beat all but one home in a BM58 over 1280m at Muswellbrook. He ran a new personal best that day, covering the journey, 5.9 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up. He has trialled twice since, with Matt Palmer on board both times. Palmer has stuck with him and will enjoy his first ride under race conditions today. He does no early work from gate three and maps to settle better than mid-field. The lightly-raced five-year-old is already a winner when first-up and looks to play a major role in this contest.
