Here are our Bowen Tips for today:
Race 3 - 1:45PM BOWEN TYRE & MECHANICAL Class 3 Handicap (1000 METRES)
The Wayne Pomfrett-trained MAN O’ ROSS (best odds $3.80 with Sportsbet) is second-up today and unbeaten at the track, looks a big chance to roll the odds-on pop here. Last start, the Uncle Mo gelding was fresh off a 19-week spell when he took on a strong Class 4 field on his home track at Mackay. Clearly in need of the run, he finished mid-field in the 1100m event. He ran the trip, 5.7 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best effort in this line-up by more than 4 lengths. He has just the one start here on his resume and that ended in a three-length victory over today’s distance. Down in grade today, he comes in well at the weights after the claim and fitter for that first-up run looks right in the mix here.
Race 6 - 3:35PM S&W CRANE HIRE Class 2 Handicap (1280 METRES)
Townsville galloper PLUCKERCARN (best odds $10 with bet365) has displayed nothing but consistency this time in, finishing top-four in his past eight-straight starts and looks a genuine winning chance here at (currently) double-figure odds today. Last start, the Pluck gelding came from well back on the turn to finish right on the heels of the placegetters in a Class 3 over 1400m at Townsville. He ran his last 600m, half a length slower than benchmark, the best in this field. He is drawn out today but will settle back in the field just the same and has Marnu Potgeiter in the saddle for the first time. With a little luck in running, he can play a major role here at each-way odds.
Race 7 - 4:15PM TICS GROUP Class 1 Handicap (1470 METRES)
Rockhampton galloper STAR OF LEON (best odds $8.50 with Sportsbet) is fitter for two starts this time in and looks well placed here to give this a real fright at each-way odds. Last start, the Starspangledbanner gelding stepped up in grade and took on a Class 2 field over 1300m on his home track. Second-up, he wasn’t disgraced when finishing a bold third with Marnu Potgieter on board for the first time. He ran the trip, 12.5 lengths slower than benchmark, still the second-best here. Ideally drawn in gate two, he gets the gun-run and maps to settle just behind the pace. Potgeiter sticks with him today and fitter for two runs back, he should play a major role in the finish here.
