Race 2 - 1:50PM KEY EMPLOYMENT WAYNE GLENN PINK SILKS CUP (1215 METRES)
Grafton galloper SWANSTON (best odds $2.80 with Sportsbet) ticks enough boxes here to be considered a genuine winning chance today. Last start, the Smart Missile gelding came off a good win on a heavy Doomben track when he beat all but one home in a Class 6 over 1350m on the same track. He ran the trip, 2 lengths slower than benchmark, the second-best in this line-up. Today, he drops back from city class racing and the conditions look ideal for him, boasting two wins from three starts on heavy tracks already. He looks the testing material here.
Race 4 - 3:00PM J & K JARVIS PINK SILKS - F&M BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1315 METRES)
The locally-trained COTTON CAPER (best odds $5 with Sportsbet) boasts a strong wet track record and looks right in the mix here. Last start, the Mossman mare came off a big win here on a Heavy 10 when she faced a rise in class and finished just behind the placegetters in similar conditions. She ran her last 600m, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best here. This looks no harder where she is already a winner at the track and distance. She is a three-time winner on heavy tracks and is capable of giving this a real shake.
Race 5 - 3:40PM BAYRANGE GROUP CG&E BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1315 METRES)
The Jim Jarvis-trained BONCHEVO (best odds $4 with bet365) raised a few eyebrows here last start and with his apparent liking to wet tracks looks the one to beat again. The Bon Hoffa gelding was fresh off a lengthy 21-week break last start when he lined-up in a Class 1 over 1012m. Unwanted in the betting, he left the gates a $19 chance and still finished best to take home the chocolates. He ran his last 600m, 1.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the second-best here. He also posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 200m sectionals for the race (on a Heavy 10). He is a two-time winner here on his home track and today the conditions again look ideal for him. With Matty McGuren in the saddle for the first time, we have him as our best of the day.
