Race 2 - 12:55PM QUBE AGRI AND PARAGON PASTORAL 3YO & UP SHOWCASE COUNTRY MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)
Having just his second race start today, the Cody Morgan-trained SOOPAT (best odds $3.30 with Sportsbet) looks ideally placed here to break through today. Last start, the Sooboog gelding was on debut at Tamworth where he led them a merry dance in a 1000m Maiden and was only nailed right on the post by two swoopers, leaving him with third prize that day (beaten less than half a length). He ran that out, 8.4 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. Drawn the fence today, he has the in-form James McDonald aboard and fitter for that first-up run, he looks to lead here and will be hard to run down.
Race 4 - 2:10PM CONSETH SOLUTIONS AND BATTERLINE EARTHMOVING CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Wyong galloper PRINCESS AMIRA (best odds $3 with Unibet) has a Tom Melbourne ‘look’ about her resume this preparation but looks well placed here to end that run today. Last start, the Written Tycoon mare made it a hat-trick of runner-up finishes when she beat all but one home in a Class 2 at Taree. She ran the trip, 6.9 lengths slower than benchmark, the best here by 2 lengths. She drops in class here and has Hugh Bowman in the saddle today. From gate five, she maps to settle on speed and with a trouble-free run, she can get the job done today.
Race 8 - 4:45PM NEWHAVEN PARK WRA COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIER (1400 METRES)
Dubbo galloper FERUS (best odds $10 with Sportsbet) is having his second start for new trainer Clint Lundholm today and with a big drop in weight here, looks a solid each-way chance today. Formerly with the Maher & Eustace stables, the Written Tycoon gelding made some impression last start as he was resuming from almost a year off the scene. Facing a BM66 over 1200m at Mudgee, he drew wide, was trapped three-deep without cover and carrying 60.5kgs on fresh legs, still managed to grab third prize over the line. Today, he draws much better in gate four, and has Ashley Morgan aboard. Already a winner when second-up, he drops 4.5kgs here and fitter for that first-up run, he can give this a real shake today.
