Race 2 - 12:03PM STRADBROKE SEASON HIGH TEA BENCHMARK 90 Handicap (2200 METRES)
The Barry Lockwood-trained ISABELLA’S SPRING (best odds $5.50 with bet365) is shooting for the hat-trick here and ticks enough boxes to suggest she can pull it off. Last start, the five-year-old mare made it back-to-back wins when she took out a BM85 by more than a length, here over 2020m. Coming from near last (of 14), she ran the trip, 5.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, setting a new personal best and posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals as well. Samantha Collett is two from three with the mare and is in charge again. Coming in nicely at the weights, she can figure in this contest.
Race 4 - 1:13PM EUREKA STUD PRINCESS STAKES LISTED (1640 METRES)
The Robert Heathcote-trained CRYMENOTEARS (best odds $11 with Palmerbet) is in great touch of late and looks a big chance of breaking through for her first Doomben win here. Last start, the Spill The Beans filly beat all but one to the line, here over the mile trip. She ran it out, 6.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, setting a new personal best. She has the runs on the board to suggest she is a genuine contender here at big odds. With Adin Thompson aboard again, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this company.
Race 7 - 3:12PM XXXX MICK DITTMAN PLATE LISTED (1110 METRES)
Robert Heathcote saddles-up track specialist STARTANTES here (best odds $8 with Palmerbet) and fitter for three runs back, looks a genuine winning chance. Last start, the Star Turn filly turned a few heads when as a $19 outsider, she beat all but Hinged home in the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick. In a first-class performance, she ran her last 600m, 13.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. She set a new personal best as well, covering the entire trip, 11.1 lengths quicker than standard. Even on a Heavy 10, she posted the fastest final 800m to 200m for the big event. She should find this a little easier and is reunited with Tony Marshall here who has steered her to four of her five career wins to date. A four-time winner at this track, she will take beating.
