The Annabel Neasham-trained SPALTET (best odds $4.20 with bet365) returns to country racing today and sporting a gear change, looks the one to beat here. Last start, the Savabeel gelding came off a podium finish at Rosehill when he took on a strong field in a BM72 over 2000m at Randwick, he ran out of sting in the final 200m to finish mid-field that day. He still ran the trip out, 6.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 8 lengths and set a new personal best as well. He drops sharply in grade here and will find this contest a lot easier today. Drawn ideally in gate four, he does no early work as he maps to settle mid-field on the fence. The drop back to the mile looks a good move after his last start efforts. The stable have removed the (front) bar plates for today and with a touch of luck in the run home, he should prove hard to hold out here.

The Bjorn Baker-trained WOLF QUEEN (best odds $3.50 with bet365) is off to a promising start after two runs and looks very competitive in this contest. Last start, the Tivaci filly went one better than her debut effort when she beat home a Maiden field over 1000m at Gosford. Jumping from the outside gate (11) she crossed to settle just behind the pace and simply outsprinted them to the line, winning by more than a length in the end. She covered the trip, 2 lengths quicker than benchmark, a new personal best and the best effort in this field. Drawn much better today in gate two, she maps to box-seat here and fitter for two runs, she will take beating in this small field today.

The Anthony Cummings-trained SECRETIVELY (best odds $8 with bet365) returns to the country scene today and down in grade, looks a genuine winning chance at odds. Last start, the Dawn Approach gelding came off a podium finish on this track when he took on the big guns in a BM72 over 1100m on Randwick’s Kensington track. Never finding clean air in the run home, he finished mid-field, beaten just over two lengths on the line. He still ran it out, 5.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 6 lengths as he posted a new personal best that day. Ideally drawn in gate four, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and has successful rider Jeff Penza back on board, looking for another win on the five-year-old. With a little more luck today, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
