Race 5 - 1:35PM BYRNE PIPE AND CIVIL BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP (2080 METRES)
The Chris Waller-trained ALEAS (best odds currently $4.20 with Palmerbet) is third-up here and down in grade, looks a solid winning chance. Last start, the British-bred gelding was having just his second Australian start when he beat all but one home in a BM88 on a Heavy 10 over 1800m at Randwick. He ran the trip, 7.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here and a new personal best as well. Unbeaten when third-up, he drops back in grade here and fitter for those first two starts this time in, he will take beating here.
Race 6 - 2:10PM BROOK GROUP 3&4YO BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Chris Waller saddles-up HOLLYWOOD NORTH here (best odds currently $11 with Palmerbet) who looks a genuine chance of bringing up the hat-trick at odds. Last start, the Vancouver gelding made it back-to-back wins at Randwick when he comfortably took care of a BM64 Hcp over 1550m on Randwick’s Kensington track. On a Heavy 9, he ran his last 600m 7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Brenton Avdulla is aboard for the first time here and with both career wins coming on wet tracks, the three-year-old should revel in the forecast conditions. Up in grade but down in weight, he looks great value in this contest.
Race 7 - 2:45PM MOSTYNCOPPER GOSFORD GOLD CUP (2080 METRES)
Scratched from Race 5 to run in the here, the Kembla Grange galloper MAIN STAGE (best odds currently $5 with bet365) is in career-best form and looks well placed at the weights here to be considered a big chance of taking the Cup back to the South Coast. Last start, the Reliable Man gelding made it back-to-back successes when he destroyed a BM78 field over 2130m at Warwick Warm. Carrying 56kgs, he put more than six lengths on the field on a Heavy 10 that day with Rachel King in the saddle. That win made it six-straight top-two finishes with the seven-year-old dropping 3kgs for this contest. King remains aboard and boasts three wins and two runner-up finishes from her six previous rides on the gelding. Four of his six career wins have come on wet tracks son the conditions look ideal for him. He looks right in the mix to make his Gosford debut a winning one.
