The Mitchell Beer-trained MY OLD BOY (best odds $4.40 with Palmerbet) has been in great touch of late and looks poised to go on with it in this contest. Last start, the Brazen Beau gelding finally shook the Maiden monkey off his back and broke through in convincing fashion on his home track at Albury. That day, he posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race as he put almost three lengths on them over the line. He achieved that from gate 12 (of 13) and has come up with the same gate here. Jason Lyon sticks with him here and he looks right in the mix today.

Kembla Grange galloper YUGOSPHERE (best odds $3.40 with Palmerbet) is coming good at the right time and looks at home in this company today. Last start, the All Too Hard mare rattled home to beat all but one across line in a Class 2 over 1400m at Wagga. She ran that trip, 5.6 lengths slower than benchmark, the second-best here behind Patrika Mist (with the three-year-old stepping up sharply in grade from maiden class today). Brock Ryan sticks with mare today and from gate four she maps to settle just behind the early speed (and there’s plenty of it here). The scene looks set for her to go one better today.

The Matt Dale-trained VALLAURIS (best odds $12 with Palmerbet) will see the Gundagai track for the first time today and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a strong each-way chance. Last start, the Medaglia d’Oro gelding came off a first-up win at Goulburn when he lined-up in a BM75 over the mile at Canberra. Yet to won when second-up, he came up short again, taking home the bronze medal that day, coming from well back in the 12-strong field. Carrying 60kgs that day, Amy McLucas was aboard and sticks with the five-year-old here. He is already a winner when third-up and has saluted over the Cup distance previously. Down 5kgs today and in from $18 overnight, he can give this a real fright.
