Bathurst visitor CHEVCONI (best odds $3 with Sportsbet) is unbeaten this time in and looks poised to remain that way today. Last start, the Nicconi gelding was impressive in winning a Class 3 over 1208m on his home track after ploughing through a Heavy 10 on the day. He ran his last 600m, 10 lengths quicker then standard benchmark, the best in this field by 9 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Anthony Cavallo has been in the saddle for both starts so far and remains aboard today. The five-year-old maps to settle better than midfield from gate five and should prove hard to hold out here.

Canberra-based READY TO HUMBLE (best odds $3.70 with Sportsbet) sees the Gundagai track for the first time today and what better way to see it than to take home the Snake Gully Cup. Last start, the Rubick gelding beat all but one home in the Cootamundra Cup, finishing second to Zakeriz that day (who stole a break on the turn and went on with it). Drawn the fence today, Newcastle Cup and Cameron Hcp winning jockey Jeff Penza is legged aboard today for his second ride on the five-year-old who maps to box-seat the early pace. With a clean crack at them on straightening, he is more than capable of out-sprinting them to the line and taking the honours back to the National Capital today.

Canberra trainer Keith Dryden saddles-up SHORES OF AVALON here (best odds $7 with Sportsbet) and second-up today, looks a super chance of victory here. Last start, the daughter of The Factor was fresh off a lengthy 20-week break when she came within a whisker of victory in the MTC Mad Scramble at Wagga. Heavily backed on race day ($6 – $3.90 fav), try as she did, she chased the two leaders all the way home (passing one of them) but just missed the other, having to settle for second prize on the day. We’re counting on Jeff Penza to ride a race-double here as he is legged aboard the mare for the first time. She gets the gun-run here jumping from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling. Already a winner when second-up, she is well weighted here and fitter for that Wagga run, she should be prove hard to hold out today at good odds.
