Hobart Tips Sunday May 8
Race 1 - 11:45AM The Mills New Norfolk Maiden (1100 METRES)
There was good backing for NICCO THE GREEK (Best Odds Currently $3.80 with Palmerbet) on debut over this track and trip last prep. David Pires cuddled him as best as he could once the horse jumped brilliantly from his wide barrier. Crossed eventually to sit wide no cover outside the speed back to his inside. Nicco The Greek then took over on turning to move right away for Pires before being claimed late by Fayerra while holding out the rest. He did a stack of work in that race with his recent winning trial indicating that he is on track for another forward showing here on resumption.
Race 2 - 12:20PM Elwick Functions & Events Maiden (1400 METRES)
Barrier blanket goes on the big mare FURTHER SHE GOES (Best Odds Currently $21 with Neds) who is racing first-up off a two-month break. Came back in early March when she stepped away well off an inside draw on the tighter Launceston track. Flat footed in behind them when the pressure came on before working home between horses late. Hasn’t been asked of much in two recent trials and should enjoy the bigger track here at Hobart. Can give this a shake provided she settles with the blinkers on out to 1400 metres.
Race 9 - 4:40PM Happy 40th Birthday Damian BM62 Hcp (1100 METRES)
It’s not every day you knock off the mighty Turk Warrior, only to be sent around at a price in a benchmark 62 next start. That’s exactly the equation we have here with VETLANDA (Best Odds Currently $7.50 with Bet365). Barry Campbell produced a masterpiece of training to prepare Vetlanda who denied the champ in a two-horse war up the straight of Launceston. Codi Jordan cuddled her filly throughout with both horses gaining their chances. She finds an open field for her first look at the track. The extra weight shouldn’t bother Vetlanda as the late season 3yo takes on the older horses. The price is there to play, and we’ll look to finish on a winning note.
