The David Murphy-trained SHINSHINTO (best odds $9.50 with Sportsbet) has mixed his form this preparation but back in country class racing today, he looks a solid chance at great odds. Last start, Golden Archer gelding came off a good win in Class 4 company on a heavy Kilcoy track when he lined up in the MM CC Qualifier (BM75) at the Sunshine Coast. That day, he found the class a little strong and the 1000m too short as well. He still ran his last 600m, 2.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He returns to the 1200m journey today where he is a two-time winner and also has a win at the Ipswich track on his resume. Drawn the fence today, he ticks enough boxes here to warrant an each-way ticket in this contest.

His resume shows a picket fence next to his name and the Lee Freedman-trained MIX (best odds $2.15 with Palmerbet) looks set to add another picket here. Last start, the Medaglia d’Oro gelding brought up the hat-trick when he destroyed a Class 4 field over 1200m at Kilcoy. Putting 2.5 lengths on them, he set a new personal best as he ran the trip out, 1.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best effort here by more than 5 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. His big win comes as no surprise as he ran the 1200m out in 1:08.4, setting a new track record for the trip. Samantha Collett sticks with him here and from gate four, maps to settle just behind the speed. In his current frame of mind, it will take a smart one here to break his unbeaten run this time in.

Yet to miss a top-four finish in four QLD starts, the Kris Lees-trained ASHERLA (best odds $2.40 with PlayUp) drops back in grade here and facing country class this time, looks a genuine winning chance today. Last start, the Astern filly finished third in a BM68 over the 1050m sprint at Doomben. She ran that out, 2.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the here by 5 lengths. Andrew Mallyon returns for the ride today after steering the filly to victory in a Class 1 at Doomben four starts back. Well drawn in gate four, she maps to settle in the first four and given a trouble-free run, she can give this contest a real shake today.
