Here are our Kempsey tips for today:
Race 1 - 1:35PM JOHN MCGEE MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1900 METRES)
Taree galloper KING KIKAU (best odds $19 with Palmerbet) is unwanted in early markets today but still ha a resume that suggests he is a genuine chance here. Last start, the Scissor Kick colt was third-up off a 22-week break when he surprised punters by winning a 1600m Maiden on his home track at Taree at the juicy odds of $91. He ran the trip, 8.1 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up and set a new personal best as well. He also posted the fastest final 600m sectional for the race. After a wealth of scratchings here, he faces just five other runners and a repeat of that last start effort puts him in with a big chance today at odds.
Race 5 - 4:00PM AKUBRA HATS OPEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
The Greg Kilner-trained SHE’S CHOOSIE (best odds $6.50 with Sportsbet) has been racing without luck of late but gets her chance to break the shackles today. Last start, the Choisir mare finished just behind the placegetters (again) in a BM66 over 1000m on a Heavy Taree track. She ran that out, 1.5 lengths slower than benchmark, the best here. Drawn the fence today, she maps to sit behind the $1.35 favourite (Hidden Hail) who draws the outside gate here and has to concede She’s Choosie 8.5kgs in this contest. The weight difference could prove to be the telling factor here.
Race 7 - 5:20PM THE BOWLO- KEMPSEY BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1450 METRES)
Grafton galloper REAL GENT (best odds $7.50 with bet365) is three-starts into this preparation and should be ready to win today. Last start, the Kendargent gelding was third-up and finished in the money when running third in a BM66 over 1400m on his home track. He ran that out, 6.7 lengths slower than benchmark, the third-best in this line-up. His resume shows he is a proven wet-tracker with all six career wins coming on rain affected tracks. The Heavy 9 today should suit and ideally drawn in gate three, he should have clean air in front of him from the outset. Rock-hard fit now and Matty McGuren in the saddle, he is a genuine contender today.
