Co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr has partnered with racingbase.com.au for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and kicks off with his Turnbull Stakes Day Preview.

The Price Kent Racing team will be up and about during the Carnival as the stable targets some of the country’s biggest races,  and Kent will provide RacingBase with weekly updates on how he expects their upcoming runners to perform.

If you want the lowdown on the likes of Ayrton, Annavisto, Gunstock, Odeum and I’m Thunderstuck, head to RacingBase each Thursday for Kent’s inside word on their stable runners.

Michael Kent Jnr’s Stable Preview for Turnbull Stakes Day

Race 1 – GET IN THE SPIRIT – 12:10PM Darley Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000 METRES)

“She is a lovely two-year-old, as we head into October, she’s currently one of our better ones.
She’s had an official jump out and a private one and won both with more to give.
She’s very professional, very fast, and we expect her to run well.
It’s always a big ask for two-year-olds to perform well on debut at Flemington down the straight and no doubt the Flemington based runners have an advantage, but we expect her to show us plenty on Saturday.”

Race 2 – TIZ MAGIC 12:40PM Kirkland Gold Super Impose Stakes (1800 METRES)

“It was a good win on debut and he was able to push his way through the gaps with the blinkers on.
Damian (Lane) was already engaged for this race but did recommend that we take the blinkers off for this race as we step up in distance, so we’ve done that.
He works with Gunstock and does work sharper
I believe that Gunstock is the one to beat in this race, but I think he is a nice place bet at $5.”

Race 2 – GUNSTOCK 12:40PM Kirkland Gold Super Impose Stakes (1800 METRES)

“I believe he’s currently favourite for the Derby, so people must be impressed with his victory last start.
He just kept coming in that race and was able to let down on multiple occasions.
He’s come on nicely and he’s dappered up from head to toe.
He’s trained on well, he’s a real stayer, he has plenty of class and I expect him to be hard to beat.”

Race 3 – DAISIES – 1:15PM TAB Edward Manifold Stakes (1610 METRES)

“She’s done a great job since we’ve had to juggle her schedule and made her run nine days apart last start so that she could get on the program we want.
She’s really thrived since that start, she’s big, strong and has plenty of scope.
I think the 1600m on a big track is a real tick for her heading into this race.
There doesn’t appear to be a lot of pace on paper, so I think we can sit that little bit closer.
It’s not a vintage Group 2 race, so hopefully she can get some black-type here.”

Race 6 – ODEUM – 3:05PM Furphy Rose of Kingston Stakes (1410 METRES)

“She had a nice trial three weeks ago, but her recent work is where we have seen the improvement.
And she worked like a Group 1 horse last Saturday and Tuesday.
She maps to sit just off them, and it looks a nice race for her.
Following this race, we are looking at the Group 2 Tristarc (1400m) at Caulfield on October 16 and then we will choose between the Group 1 Empire Rose and the Golden Eagle at Rosehill.”

Race 6 – ANNAVISTO – 3:05PM Furphy Rose of Kingston Stakes (1410 METRES)

“It was a nice win last start, I would have like to have seen her get rolling from the 600m, but it just showed how tough she is.
She looks ready to peak third-up.
She never comes back from the paddock in amazing shape, but she puts on weight as the Spring weather comes through and as we increase her work, she looks tremendous now.
It’s a good race, there’s plenty of class in it, I think we can finish top three and then we will look at heading towards the Group 3 Ladies’ Day Vase Stakes (1600m) on October 13 at Caulfield.
The aim for her this prep is the Group 1 Empire Rose (1600m) at Flemington on October 30”.

Race 9 – TAVIDANCE – 5:05PM McGregor Portables Paris Lane Stakes (1410 METRES)

“He just didn’t come up last prep, but he is going really well now as you could see in the trial.
I expect him to be mid-field with cover and if they can make up ground and if there’s any rain around then he will run a big race.”

Kent’s Best for Turnbull Stakes Day

“I think our best bet for the weekend is Gunstock in race 2. He’s currently $3.30 and I think you could back the stablemate to place in the same race, Tiz Magic, he’s currently $5 for the place.”
While there are plenty of unknowns when it comes to the two-year-olds and the Flemington straight, I think you can back Get In The Spirit (race 1) each-way at $7.50.”
