Race 2 - 2:45PM MOREE CUP SEPTEMBER 2022 CG&E CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Inverell galloper HYLAND BAY (best odds $5.50 with bet365) has shown a liking for the Moree track and looks well placed here to bring up his first win this time in. Last start, the Shamus Award gelding overraced at Tamworth where he still managed to grab third prize after sitting outside the leader for most of the trip. He ran out the 1600m, 6.9 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this field. Sporting winkers for the first time, he is ideally drawn in gate three and maps to settle behind the pace today as Clayton Gallagher sticks with him after that Tamworth run. Due for a change of luck, he gets his chance here today.
Race 3 - 3:25PM #LOVENSW F&M CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
The William Freedman-trained SHE HULK (best odds $3.10 with Sportsbet) is in great touch this time in and if she can handle the rise in trip here, she should prove hard to beat again. Last start, the Hinchinbrook filly came off a runner-up finish in a Gosford Maiden when she went one better at Dubbo and finally broke through for her maiden win over 1100m. She steps up in trip here and has more weight to carry but should strip even fitter after those two runs back. The stable have fitted the blinkers today for the first time as Ben Looker takes the reins. She maps to settle on speed from gate two and with a genuine pace, looks every chance for back-to-back victories today.
Race 5 - 4:40PM #MYMOREE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (950 METRES)
Wauchope galloper POITA (best odds $6 with Sportsbet) sees the Moree track for the first time today and second-up here looks a strong winning chance. Last start, the Headwater gelding resumed off a lengthy 23-week break when he tackled a Highway Class 2 over 1000m at Randwick on a Heavy 10 that day. He came from near last to finish mid-field behind Shelby Sixtysix (who since then, finished second in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes and then won the Group 3 McCarten Stakes). He ran his last 600m, 5.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 5 lengths. Already a winner when second-up, that’s strong form to being into a BM58 at Moree. Dropping in grade and fitter for that first-up run, he looks the one to beat today.
