Boxing Day Multibet – $698 multi for Caulfield

  • 4 runners to combine in a multi
Caulfield Racing

Racing is at Caulfield on Boxing Day, Thursday December 26 and there are eight races on the programme.

We have combined our best bets from the venue into a four-leg multi that pays $698 for a $10 investment at Sportsbet.

Race 1 – 1:25PM Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap (1400 METRES)
We look no further than the opening race at Caulfield and RIVER JEWEL (PLACE) looks well placed to finish in the top three. The five-year-old has been very consistent this preparation and just missed out in a BenchMark 84 at Flemington on December 14, finishing a narrow runner up behind Bumper Blast in what was a deceptive photo finish. She struggled at Ballarat prior to that but might not have been suited, while three runs ago she was close up at Group 3 level at Flemington. She is likely to settle handy to the lead and there doesn’t look to be much pace around her in the early stages. Look for her to be right in the hunt at the business end.

Race 2 – 2:00PM Joe Brown Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race 2 of the day is a BenchMark 70 for the three-year-olds and things might pan out for EQUALETTA (PLACE), who is likely to go forward in the early stages. The Richard Laming-trained galloper has had just the four starts, placing in three of those and speared to the lead in his recent assignment at Moonee Valley before just missing out in the dying stages behind Rocking Eagle. He was 6th at the venue prior to that when pulling up with issues, while three runs back he claimed a Maiden at Bairnsdale. He is likely to lead them along in this race and will save plenty of ground from barrier 1. With Dwayne Dunn on board he can go very close.

Race 3 – 2:35PM Dennis Hanrahan Handicap (2000 METRES)
We stretch out over the 2000m trip for Race 3 and SADDLE THE SUN (PLACE) is well worth another chance at the each-way quote. The Matt Cumani-trained galloper last stepped out over the 2600m trip at Ballarat on Ballarat Cup day and struggled to run out the trip, finishing down the track to Creedence. However, his form was very good prior to that. He did all the work when finishing runner-up to Savvy Oak at Flemington on Stakes Day back in November, while at his run prior to that he was a winner over the 2000m at Seynour. With luck in running, a top three finish is on the cards.

Race 5 – 3:50PM Allan Wicks Handicap (1100 METRES)
Race 5 at Caulfield is a BenchMark 70 and WHENEVER WHEREVER (PLACE) should be an improver at his second run back this campaign. The Patrick Payne-trained galloper has won three of his eight career starts and has placed in a further three. He resumed with a close up 7th at Warrnambool on December 1 and in that race he was really only warming up late. At his initial campaign he was a second up winner at Wangaratta before taking out a BM70 at Swan Hill later on. The son of Pins gets to his ideal distance of the 1200m and will be ridden by Jye McNeil, who comes off another big day out at Flemington last weekend. The young hoop should be able to find a spot in the running line aboard the four-year-old and a top three finish is on the cards.
