Race 4 - 1:55PM Fibretrack Maiden Plate (1800 METRES)
Coming back from two 2100 metre runs, DANRENA (Best Odds Currently $13 with Neds)was backing up eight days later over 1400 meters at Oakbank. Sent towards the outside fence on her lonesome early in a move that helped Plympton to a win over 2900 metres earlier in the day. Not sure the move provided the same advantages in a seven-furlong maiden at Oakbank. Still racing 4WNC near the speed when he did decide to join the rest of the field by the 600m. Looked gone into the straight and inclined to lay under pressure. Came again to just miss second in a bunch finish. Wide draw today means they’ll likely get back on a track we expect to play to those ridden with patience.
Race 7 - 3:45PM Carlton Draught Benchmark 68 Handicap (Heat 12 Provincial Super Series) (1600 METRES)
Ashton Downing has MANZALA (Best Odds Currently $6.50 with Bet365) racing well early into this prep. Circled as the widest to make good ground behind Impossible Action when resuming over 1400 metres. Should have finished much closer when racing second-up over the mile at Morphettville. The door shut on him from around a furlong out after making ground along the fence. Certainly would have finished much closer to My Mate Sonny that day had he found clear running. Kept the good form going when staying to the mile at Morphettville and beaten under a length to Impossible Action. Drawn nicely and is a proven weight carrier.
Race 9 - 4:52PM Dutton's Easy to do business with!! Class Two Handicap (Heat 12 Autumn Series) (1400 METRES)
We were impressed with the second-up performance of HEADPHONES (Best Odds Currently $21 with BlueBet). He raced strongly throughout under Stacey Callow over 1300 metres at Balaklava as the speed was poured on. Callow attempted to cuddle him for as long as possible up the big straight, except the leaders had come back to her. Left exposed from a long way out, Headphones proved a sitting shot for Vivaldi’s Quest who swooped home late. Fitter now for the two runs back and finds some weight relief today on a big track that should suit.
