Race 3 - 3:05PM ZZZFM BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1550 METRES)
Grafton galloper REAL GENT (best odds $5.50 with bet365) is three starts into this preparation and boasting a strong wet-track record, he looks a genuine winning chance today. Last start, the Kendargent gelding was third-up and improved enough to finish third in a BM66 over 1400m on his home track. He ran that trip, 6.7 lengths slower than benchmark, the third-best effort in this line-up. After the claim here, he carries just 57.5kgs and should thrive in the conditions, boasting four wins from six starts in heavy conditions. All six of his victories have come on rain affected tracks and with a Heavy 10 forecast today, he will be in his element.
Race 4 - 3:40PM CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALE BALLINA BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
The Glenn Thornton-trained LOLAROSIE (best odds $3.25 with bet365) is in great touch of late and boasting a strong wet-track record, looks a big chance in this field today. Last start, the Reward For Effort mare gave nothing else a chance when she took out a Class 2 over 1250m at Ballina. Sent out a white-hot favourite that day ($1.65) she put almost two lengths on them over the line with Zac Lloyd aboard. She ran the trip, 4.4 lengths slower than benchmark, the third-best in this field. Thornton puts daughter Stephanie in the saddle today where she will be out to improve on her runner-up effort two starts back. All three career wins have come on wet tracks and from gate two today, she will take beating.
Race 6 - 4:55PM BOXING DAY TICKETS ON SALE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Gold Coast galloper COSMO KRAMER (best odds $4.20 with Sportsbet) ticks enough boxes here to suggest he is a genuine winning chance here. Last start, the Golden Archer gelding was third-up where he gave his maiden rivals a galloping lesson, taking out the 1400m event by 2.5 lengths on his home track. He ran his last 600m, half a length slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. He also recorded the fastest final 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. Drawn the fence today, he maps to settle near mid-field with cover and enjoying the sit, he should prove hard to hold out here.
