Scone galloper CHESTNUT SCAFFA (best odds $2.70 with Sportsbet) is in great touch this time in and looks well placed here to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, the All Too Hard gelding came off a big maiden win at Gunnedah when he lined-up in a 14-strong Class 1 field over 1280m at Muswellbrook. Carrying 60kgs, he led from barrier to box, just lasting on the line after skipping out to lead by three lengths passing the 600m mark. He ran the trip, 5.7 lengths slower than benchmark but that rates more than 3 lengths better than his rivals here. Billy Cray was aboard for the five-year-old’s past two wins and remains aboard today. Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to be box-seating on settling and will take a ton of beating from there.

The Cody Morgan-trained TRUMPED UP (best odds $4.40 with Palmerbet) has a record that almost matches that of Tom Melbourne but he looks poised to post his second career win today. Last start, the Tycoon Ruler gelding recorded his 12th minor placing in 20 career starts when he finished third (for the third time straight) in a Class 2 over 1000m at Tamworth. He ran that out, 3.8 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 5 lengths. He covered his last 600m, 2.1 lengths quicker than standard, and that rates more than 6 lengths better than his competition here. He also posted the fastest final 800m and 600m sectionals that day. He maps to settle near mid-field with cover from gate nine and had Jackson Searle returning for the ride today (who is the only jockey to taste victory with the five-year-old). He drops in grade today and after Searle’s claim, carries the same weight as last start. He lines up here a big chance to return to the winner’s circle today.

The Glenn Frazer-trained NICOLA (best odds $10 with Bet365) drops sharply in grade here and should give this contest a real shake at odds. Last start, the Charge Forward mare lined-up in a strong Class 3 event over 1200m at Tamworth where she finished fifth, beaten three lengths on the day. She ran the trip, 8.4 lengths slower than benchmark that day but that is the best in this field and was a new personal best for her. The stable have taken off the tongue tie today and Mathew Cahill returns for the ride, boasting a solid record with the mare ( a win and 2 runner-up finishes from five rides to date). Drawn nicely in gate six, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen and three runs into this preparation, she should be at peak fitness now and will take a hand in this event.
