Scone trainer Paul Messara saddles-up CROSS STEP here (best odds $4.40 with bet365) who looks well placed in this field to be a real threat. Last start, the four-year-old mare wasn’t disgraced when taking home third prize in a BM58 over 1500m at Muswellbrook. Drawing the outside gate in the field of 14, she was never on the track (settling 10th, three-wide without cover) and with 59.5kgs did well to be beaten less than three lengths on the rain affected track. She ran her last 600m, 1.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here. Today, she draws much better in gate two and has Aaron Bullock in the saddle for the first time who boasts a 43% winning strike rate with the stable. This looks ideal for her and should prove hard to hold out here.

Another from the Paul Messara stable is OUTBURST (best odds $4.60 with bet365) who is a promising type boasting five podium finishes from his six career starts and he looks the one to beat here today. Last start, the Real Impact gelding was second-up when he took out a Class 1/Maiden Plate over the mile on his home track at Scone. He ran his last 600m, 2.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. Aaron Bullock has ridden him twice previously (for a win and a minor placing) and has the job again today. Ideally drawn in gate two, she gets the gun-run here and maps to settle just behind the pace. Fitter and in god touch, she looks a serious contender here.

The locally-trained BELLADEEL (best odds $13 with Palmerbet) is in great touch this time in and is overdue for a win today. Last start, the Dundeel gelding beat all but one to the line in a BM64 over 1000 on a Heavy 10 at Scone. He still managed to run his last 600m, 3.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. He also posted the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. Rory Hutchings remains aboard after finishing runner-up on him at his past two starts. Nicely drawn in gate five he maps to settle just behind the early pace and with a clear run to the line, he should be there at the finish. In from $23 overnight, he looks a solid each-way chance in this event.
