Narromine galloper FIVEASH lines up here on the improve and looks a good chance to upset the odds-on favourite today. Last start, the Casino Prince mare was fourth-up at Wellington where she landed a podium finish, taking home third prize in a Class 2 over 1400m. After drawing wide that day, she settled last in the nine-strong field and then stormed home to beat all but two of them to the line. The five-year-old also posted the fastest overall sectionals for the race. On a five-day back-up here, she does no work early from gate five and will settle back in the field, whereas the favourite (Choosday Nights) has drawn wide and will have to spend some money early to fins a suitable sit. The extra trip looks ideal for our girl here and on a five-day back-up here, she represents great value today.

Mudgee visitor OUR DASHA lines up a much better chance than the market suggests and with a little luck in running, could give this a real shake at odds. Last start, the Denman mare drew the car park at Muswellbrook (gate 13 of 14), and as expected, was trapped wide to the turn. She chased hard all the way home and did a mighty job to finish fourth, beaten less than two lengths on the line in the 1000m sprint. She ran the trip, one length above benchmark, the second-best here, running her final 600m, just short of a length quicker than the standard mark. With three starts behind her this preparation, she will strip even fitter here and will appreciate the step up in distance as well. Grant Buckley was aboard for all three of those runs and is sticking with the mare today. She looks a big chance here and is certainly worth an each-way ticket here.

This year’s Cup sees a dozen runners face the starter and I’m liking the chances of Canberra galloper LOLITA GOLD to upset the more fancied horses here today. Last start, the Zoffany mare was second-up at Bathurst where she faced Class 4 opposition in a 1400m contest. She finished that day behind Zouologist and O’mudgee who has since then finished second in the Country Cup at Scone last Friday. Lolita Gold covered that trip, 3.3 lengths above benchmark, her final 600m 2.8 lengths quicker than the standard, both of which are the best here. Ideally drawn today in gate three, she maps to be sitting just behind the pace (on the fence) and has Mathew Cahill on board for the first time. She loses nothing there with Cahill already boasting 55 winners this season. A three-time winner over the mile, this little lady in this contest up to her eye teeth today.
