Race 1 - 12:20PM Crombies Bulk Haulage Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
Angus Chung had VENDETTA (Best Odds Currently $3.50 with Bet365) out of the gates well before coming back off the speed battle. The mare seemed to resent being restrained through that early to middle part, racing with her mouth open and getting her head up. Responded better when Chung slipped her some leather to move up to the leaders on turning. Leon’s Shout held a margin on Vendetta throughout and even came away inside the last 50 meters. Coming back to 1100 meters shouldn’t hurt and being drawn off them means that Angus can stalk from just off the speed again. We rate the strength of the maiden that Vendetta comes out of, and it was good to see the quinella leave a gap back to the others.
Race 7 - 4:00PM Northpoint Toyota Benchmark 58 Handicap (1396 METRES)
Chris Bieg sends LEON’S SHOUT (Best Odds Currently $6.50 with BlueBet) back along the West Coast following his win here on resumption. Jumped well and travelled kindly on the speed for Callan Murray, Leon’s Shout kept going to break his maiden. He was taken on in front initially, before being challenged from the top of the straight. He fended off the challenge before moving away late showing the extra trip here shouldn’t bother him. Had teased with talent during his first prep, and he can make Port Augusta his own this time in.
Race 8 - 4:35PM Elders Insurance Benchmark 54 Handicap (1498 METRES)
We’ll follow GOTTABITON (Best Odds Currently $7 with Palmerbet) after his narrow defeat at the first meeting here of the season a fortnight ago. The winner Benz Baron was the ultimate black booker of the card and would have been a moral beaten if Gottabiton found the better of him. Callan Murray gave Gottabiton a treat just off the speed to attack from top of the straight. He kept coming at the winner late, all to no avail. That pair put a gap back to the rest and Gottabiton is worth following at his second run on the track while coming back in grade.
