Friday May 13

Warwick Farm trainer, Annabel Neasham saddles-up AFRICAN DAISY here (best odds currently $4.60 with Palmerbet) and second-up today looks a genuine winning chance in this field. Last start, the American Pharoah filly make a big impression when she clobbered her rivals in a Wyong Maiden over 1350m. Fresh off a 21-week absence, she made light work of the Heavy 10 conditions that day, putting more than five lengths on the them over the line. She ran her last 600m, 3.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field while posting the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race as well. She has a wide gate to contend with here but with ace jockey James McDonald aboard today, she maps to settle near the speed and looks the one to beat here.

A competitive line-up faces the starter here for this year’s Cup with markets offering $5.00 the field and it’s the consistent Kris Lees-trained RUSTIC STEEL (best odds currently $5 with Palmerbet) who stands out as the one to beat. Last start, the Deep Field gelding made it win number two this preparation when he took out ‘The Coast’ at Gosford last week. Leading all the way, he had enough in store to hold them off and cross the line half a length in front of them. He ran his last 600m, 7.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Kerrin McEvoy has the job today and ideally drawn in gate four, he maps to settle near the speed again. With a trouble-free run up front and on a quick back-up, he will take beating today.

Kris Lees saddles-up THINK FREE here (best odds currently $16 with Palmerbet) and at double-figure odds today looks a genuine chance in this contest. Last start, the So You Think mare battled on gamely to finish third in a BM78 Hcp on a Heavy 10 at Randwick. She ran it out, half a length quicker than benchmark, third-best here behind French Marine and Texas Storm who have both drawn badly today. Already a winner when third-up, the six-year-old is also a five-time winner in soft going so she will revel in this conditions today. Josh Parr has the reins here and from gate one, gets the gun-run as she maps to settle right behind the early pace. She has a lot going for her here and is well worth an each-way ticket today.

Saturday May 14

The Jason Deamer-trained LOVETHEINVASION (best odds currently $4.40 with bet365) is second-up and looks the goods for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Time For War mare came off a 12-week spell when she finished too good for a BM74 field over 1450m at Muswellbrook. She ran her last 600m, 1.8 lengths quicker than benchmark that day, the best in this field. Two wins and four minor placings from eight starts on wet tracks suggest she will be in her element in the conditions and after the claim carries 5.5kgs less than last start. She maps to settle on-speed and with that big drop in weight should prove hard to run down.

Chris Waller saddles-up TYCOONIST here (best odds currently $5 with Palmerbet) and second-up in this contest looks the one to beat. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding came off a 15-week break and on fresh legs, took out the Listed Hawkesbury Rush over 1100m. He ran that trip out, 8.5 lengths quicker than benchmark which is the best here. Two wins and six other podium finishes suggests he will also revel in the going here as Chad Schofield remains aboard for the ride. Already a two-time winner when second-up, he gets the gun-run from gate one and will take beating here.

Down in the weights here, the John O’Shea-trained LE GAI SOLEIL (best odds currently $5.50 with Palmerbet) has an impeccable fresh record who looks right in the mix in this company. Last start, the Tavistock mare ended her last campaign finishing mid-field in the Group 3 Aspiration Quality over the mile on a Heavy 9 at Randwick. She ran her last 600m, 4.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. She has trialled twice since for two top-three finishes (both on wet tracks). Kerrin McEvoy was aboard for all three of those rides and sticks with her for this contest. She maps to settle better than mid-field (with cover) here and a trouble-free run should see her there at the finish.
