Here are our Stawell race tips for today:
Race 2 - 1:30PM Russ Studio Jewellers 3YO Maiden Plate (1300 METRES)
BELLE ET RICHE (Best odds $2.70 with Bet365) can break through in Race 2. The promising filly from the Mitchell Freedman camp has had the two runs for a 3rd on debut at Moe before stepping out at Kyneton over the 1118m on March 31, running home well for runner-up behind Benefico. She was first up that day and had a few excuses before producing the fastest late splits. A firmer in the early betting, she will be very hard to beat with any improvement to come at her second run back.
Race 4 - 2:40PM Hewitt & Whitty Saddlery Stawell BM70 Hcp (1100 METRES)
Keen on the South Australian contender, DAMASCUS MOMENT (Best odds $2.70 with Bet365), in Race 4. The Mt Gambier based galloper comes over the border and settled on the speed before going down behind Gaze Grise at Morphettville on April 2 over the 1050m. The on-pacer has finished in the top four at her past eight runs and has been producing some solid figures in all of those. Last time she went 4.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is more than eight lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. John Allen rides and the pair have drawn barrier 4.
Race 7 - 4:40PM Stuart McGregor Stawell Gold Cup (2000 METRES)
Best Value comes up in the feature of the day, the Stawell Cup, and it is NAMAKWA (Best odds $12 with Palmerbet) that can be an improver at his third run back from a spell. The Maher/Eustace galloper gets back out to the 2000m and battled on resumption over the 1400m before sticking on ok when 8th behind Austrata at Flemington over the 1800m on March 30. Third up last time he improved when stepping up from the 1600m to take out a weaker affair over the 2000m on the Ballarat Synthetic before going a very healthy 10 lengths faster than standard when defeating the likes of Reuber over the trip at Flemington. The blinkers come off and he draws barrier 2 with Harry Coffey to ride. That jockey goes at 28% for the stable, providing a 26% profit on turnover for the stable.
