Here are our Taree Tips for today.
Race 1 - 12:05PM WINGHAM CUP FRIDAY 10 JUNE CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1007 METRES)
Port Macquarie visitor LEESIDE (best odds currently $4.40 with Palmerbet) sees the Taree track for the first time today and in her current form should prove hard to beat here. Last start, the Headwater mare was second-up and proved too strong for a Class 2 field on her home track in Heavy 9 conditions that day. She ran the trip, 6.9 lengths slower than benchmark, the second-best effort here behind Crimson Rock by less than half a length. Ben Looker sticks with the mare today who maps to take a sit behind the early speed. With a slight weight advantage over the topweight and a trouble-free run, she can give them a start and a beating today.
Race 6 - 3:10PM XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1614 METRES)
The Port Macquarie-trained galloper SIPPIN SEASON (best odds currently $7 with bet365) come off a string of minor placings here and is overdue for a change of luck. Last start, the Excelebration gelding made it five-straight minor prize finishes when he finished third in a Class 1 Hcp on his home track. He ran the trip, 1.6 lengths slower than benchmark, the best here and a new personal best for him as well. Already a winner at the track, conditions today look ideal with his resume showing a win and three minor placings from nine starts on heavy tracks. Patrick Scorse returns here for the ride (after steering him to second place two starts back). In career-best form of late, he looks a real threat here at odds today.
Race 8 - 4:20PM SAXBYS SOFT DRINK BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1412 METRES)
The Tracey Bartley-trained KAAYDEH (best odds currently $13 with Palmerbet) makes her Taree debut today and looks set to give this contest a real fright. Last start, the Dream Ahead mare showed plenty of improvement when fourth-up, she took home third prize in a Class 4 Hcp over the mile on a Heavy 8 at Wyong. She ran that out, 3.4 lengths slower than benchmark, second-best here behind Spring Break who resumes today with no Heavy track results from three previous attempts in the conditions. From gate three here, she does no early work as she maps to settle near mid-field. Dropping slightly in grade as she returns to benchmarking company, she should be at her peak now and with Ben Looker back in the saddle, she looks great value in this field and well worth an each-way ticket today.
