The Lindsay Hatch-trained PERFECT ENCOUNTER (best odds $2 with bet365) is three starts into this campaign and looks well placed here to make it back-to-back victories. Last start, the Better Than Ready filly was exactly that as she gave her Class 1 rivals a real galloping lesson, putting more than two lengths on them, here over 1300m journey. She ran that out, 3.5 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up and set a new personal best as well. She ran her last 600m, 3.4 lengths quicker than standard time, the best here by more than 3 lengths. Rock-hard fit after those three runs back, she is already a two-time winner on her home track and looks poised to rack-up another one here.

Lindsay Hatch saddles-up BEFANA here (best odds $2.20 with bet365) who looks well placed to make an impression on debut at the track. Last start, the Better Than Ready mare ended her last preparation finishing fourth in a strong Class 4 over 1200m at Ipswich. She ran her last 600m, 6.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 7 lengths. A recent trial on the Clifford Park track suggests she just might make an impression first-up here, after winning that event by 3.5 lengths on the line. Expectations are high here as Angela Jones remains aboard and after her claim, the mare carries a reasonable 55.5kgs as she drops back to Class 3 company here. Already a winner when first-up, she looks right in the mix.

A wide gate appears to be the only hurdle for the locally-trained LOUIE LA’JOY (best odds $4.80 with Sportsbet) to overcome on his way to another podium finish at Clifford Park. Last start, the Love Conquers All gelding had his 20th start at the track when he beat all but one home in a BM70 over the 1640m journey. He was third-up that day and beaten just 1.5 lengths on the line. He ran it out, 1.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 5 lengths as he also posted the fastest final 200m sectional for the event. He has the early gate speed to cross from the wide gate (12) and if he can settle quickly (with cover), he can be a real force here.
