Sunshine Coast galloper SOCK’EMSID (best odds currently $5 with Palmerbet) is down in grade today and looks a solid winning chance in this company. Last start, the Mahisara gelding overraced most of the way and paid the price by finishing unplaced on his home track in a BM65 Hcp over the mile. He ran his last 600m, 2 lengths slower than benchmark, still rating the best in this field. The stable are sending him over more ground today but faces an easier task here . Drawn wide, his early gate speed has him crossing to settle in the first half-dozen where he should find a sit with cover. A trouble-free run sees him figuring prominently today.

Local galloper GENGHIS KHAN (best odds currently $3.60 with Ladbrokes) is second-up and having his second start for his new stable and looks well placed here to give this contest a real shake. Last start, the six-year-old gelding was fresh off a 12-week spell (while changing trainers) and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in a Class 1 Hcp over 1350m at Warwick. He settled mid-field that day and fought on gamely for that podium finish. Angela Jones was aboard that day and sticks with him for today’s assignment. Today’s challenge looks a little easier and the step up in trip also looks ideal for him. Placed twice from three previous second-up runs, he draws gate three today and maps to sit right behind the early pace. Fitter for that first-up run, he looks the testing material here.

Locally-trained by Mark Currie, SHOTGUN SONNY (best odds currently $4.20 with Palmerbet) is four starts into this campaign and sporting gear changes today, looks in the mix for a victory here. Last start, the Tycoon Ruler gelding finished on the podium when he claimed third prize in a BM62 Hcp over 1100m at Gatton. He ran his last 600m, 3.4 lengths quicker than benchmark that day, the best in this line-up. He also recorded the fastest final 800m and 600m sectionals for the race. The stable take the blinkers off again for today’s contest with Gary Geran sticking with him after five previous rides have ended in two wins and three minor placings. From gate three, he maps to settle in the first few pairs and looks a solid winning chance today.
