The Olivia Cairns-trained FIRE KING (best odds $7 with bet365) has been in good touch this time in and with a strong track (and distance) record, looks right in the mix here. Last start, the Worthy Cause gelding came off a poor performance at Rockhampton and turned it around at the same track by finishing runner-up in a Three-Year-Old Hcp with Ryan Wiggins back in the saddle. He ran that out, 5.3 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this field. Already a track and distance winner at Cluden Park, Wiggins makes the trip north to take control again and drawn inside the race favourite (Palencia), he is better placed and is more than capable of victory here today.

Local trainer Georgie Holt saddles-up RAISE DA VIBRATION here (best odds currently $2.45 with Palmerbet) who looks poised to build on his picket fence and make it four-straight today. Last start, the Eurozone gelding brought up the hat-trick in fine style by destroying a Class 3 field, here over the 1000m sprint. Putting three lengths on them over the line, he ran the trip out, 1 length slower than benchmark, a new personal best for him and more than 4 lengths quicker than this field. Ideally drawn in gate four today, he usually settles near mid-field and maps to be thereabouts again today. Already two from two, ‘lethal’ Lacey Morrison (who comfortably leads the local jockey’s premiership) remains aboard today and with a clear run to the line, looks the best of the day.

Atherton trainer Roy Chillemi has a large representation here today and among them is HIGHER REALM (best odds currently $5 with bet365) and with regular stable rider Stephen Wilson on board again, ticks enough boxes here to be considered a genuine winning chance today. Last start, the Wandjina gelding was second-up when he beat all but one home, here in a Class 6 over 1000m. He ran the trip, 1.5 lengths slower than benchmark, third-best behind race favourite here (The Egyptian) who concedes Chillemi’s galloper 6kgs today. Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to be settling right behind the speed and from there, Wilson knows what to do (after steering him to all 5 career wins to date). A two-time winner at Cluden Park over this distance and already a winner when third-up, he looks set to throw down the challenge to this field at the weights today.
