Race 4 - 2:17PM THE JUICE BAR Class 3 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Gold Coast galloper POWER BOOM (best odds currently $5 with bet365) resumes today and taking on country-class company, looks the testing material here. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom mare ended her previous campaign by finishing fourth in a BM68 Hcp over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. She ran her last 600m, 3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. Yet to salute on QLD tracks, the mare boasts a very strong fresh record winning three of her five first-up appearances and Boris Thornton is prevailing with her here for his father Glenn (who trains the horse). With a trouble-free run, she could pinch this one in weaker company today.
Race 5 - 2:52PM BENZ AUTO DISMANTLERS Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap (1350 METRES)
The Michael Nolan-trained TWILIGHT BOOM (best odds currently $7 with Palmerbet) is in career-best form of late and looks a genuine winning chance here at good odds. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom gelding came off his maiden win at Toowoomba to finish third in a BM58 Hcp over 1200m at Dalby. He ran that out, 4.7 lengths slower than benchmark, the best here by more than 3 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 400m and 200m sectionals for the race (finishing strongly over the final 100m). Montanna Savva retains the ride today and is yet to miss a podium finish on the three-year-old from four previous rides. The extra distance today looks ideal and with a trouble-free run, he can take this one out.
Race 8 - 4:42PM WARWICK SANDSTONE BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1500 METRES)
Locally-trained by Les Clarke, MILITARTY KINGS (best odds currently $14 with Palmerbet) is a track and distance specialist who can give us a nice payday to end the meeting today. Last start, the Hussonet gelding came off a win on this track when he took on BM62 Hcp at the Dalby track. He missed the jump that day (after drawing the outside gate) and settled last where he found the job of reeling them in a little too much, finishing unplaced in the run. He still ran his last 600m, 2.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Drawn much better today in gate four, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and has previous winning rider Gary Geran returning for today’s assignment. He is back home today and already a two-time winner at the track and trip, he looks outstanding value in this company and well worth an each-way ticket to finish the day.
